We are getting closer to launching your blog! So far we are at least a bottle of wine in and still going! But we are at the tail end of this ultimate guide to blogging for single moms! So lets stop procrastinating and get on with it!
In this part we are going to look at the steps to take with your new blog posts and how to get them ready for launch.
I have placed this content into 4 easy parts
- Part 1: Getting started – The Basics
- Part 2: Branding and Logos – as well as social media
- Part 3: your first few posts and content – also finding your niche – SEO and other important stuff
- Part 4: launching and setting blog goals
How many posts do I need to start a blog?
Ok – this gets asked hundreds of times a day – and my personal opinion? Enough to fill the template you’ve selected so that it looks good and full and comprehensive. If you dont have a limit to this on your first page – start with 3-5. Its a good place to start, and the king of blogging – the Pro Blogger – suggests having 5 ready to go – 10 in draft and 20 in the thinking stages. If you notice – when I launch this blog – I will have 4 – this 4 part series of how I set the blog up and how you can too. I need at least another 3 to make it look full – so I have a post I am collecting info for – easy healthy lunch box ideas for busy single moms…. yeah – totes. I got this shit in the bag 😛 the reason I have that one cooking in the background is because – while I can comment on making stupid lunch boxes every stupid day – I can’t write 300 words on it – and I need 300 words to make an impact on google ranking.
How do I find content for my posts?
Well this is a great question – for my “round up of lunchbox ideas” I joined a couple of blogging facebook pages and asked people to submit content with links and pictures. Perfect. The work is pretty much done for me, and you know what – thats great because I am a mom and I don’t have time to be writing 1500 word essays – granted I can potentially do it if I’m on a rand and have a couple wines in me. So thats the first place to start
1. Find some blogging facebook groups to join.
Ok where else? Well what is your blog about? is it about jogging? the first place I would head is “answer the public” where they round up common questions based on your keyword that you want to write about. So lets take a closer look at jogging. So already without much effort you have some epic things to talk about “will jogging burn my belly fat” “Why do my shins hurt when jogging?”
So perfect you now have a pile of ideas for content. Research and write. Use these questions in your H2 titles
2. Check out answer the public.
3. Lets find the key word and title.
Yoast wants you to put your key word and title every where. So – now is the time to really get smart – because you want people to find you in google search right – you want them to type jogging and boom there you come up! It however takes some time and takes some key word research.
So we are talking about jogging. To make your title and key word pop there are a couple of tricks. Lets start with the first one. Pick an obscure aspect to your key word.
obsure aspect – while holding wine
ok – lets use that as our key word
Jogging while holding wine
head into a key word search tool – there are many – and have a look at how this particular key word searches. You want the searchability lowish – so that your search can compete – so you want to look for results lower than 500 000.
Now pop it into google and see what comes up.
Some interesting stuff!
Once you have an idea about what the key word search is on these – lets map out those key words in yoast and build a title.
According to Brendon Gaille from the Blog Millionaire – the golden ticket of headline writing is to
Have a odd number at the font.
Use a superlative
Use your weird key word phrase
and add some magic sprinkles.
So for this post I am going to title it “12 perfect ways for single moms to hold wine while jogging” with my key search word phrase being “hold wine while jogging”
Perfect – it covers single moms, holding wine while jogging, jogging – done.
Once you have 300 words or more – you are ready to go.
So lets do a quick post check.
- Have you written over 300 words?
- Have you included questions in your H2 titles?
- Have you included heaps of the word jogging in the post? (yoast will be happy)
- Included your title
- Popped your key words into the yoast keyword section
- Included that phrase in any pictures and alt titles you have inserted
Hopefully the yoast g
YAY! Now lets create some pins to go with that.
Getting your pinterest ready for blogging
Now that we have some content posted to the website – we are nearing launch day. Now you may already have a personal pinterst account and that’s totally ok, totally up to you if you want to use it for your new blog or not – but for the sake of this process we are going to pretend that you are starting from scratch. So perfect. Sign up for Pinterst.
I want to be clear about something with regards to printerst, up until now you have been using pinterst to look at cure houses and bed linen and kids party bullshit – while you drink your wine in the evenings on a Friday. No. Stop that right now and get with the program – no more of that! Pinterest is a strong and optimised search engine with more users than you can imagine. This will be your biggest traffic driver. So put down that wine and focus!
When you create your account – make sure you have it set up as a business. You want to see your analytics.
Another thing you want to do is set up “Rich Pins” pinterest can show you how to do that. It will help when pinning things from your site. Its super easy.
Once you are all set up and ready to go – its time to add yourself to tailwind.
Then head to pin groupie and apply to join some groups – again this will be your blog sites main source of traffic while you get started so do not be shy to apply to a couple.
Now that you have the basics set up – use your new branding on canva to create some lovely pinterest boards – make sure you have a board dedicated to your blog posts – we will cover how this works in part 4 – in the launch.
Once thaty is done and ready – its time to get started on creating pins to match your content. For our topic on “12 perfect ways for single moms to hold wine while jogging” you can use that on your pinterst pin – make sure they are long and that your website is somewhere central in case the pin gets cut by mobile or desktop. You can also use some catchy titles like – Did your boobs just hit you in the face while jogging? Well you obviously need a wine! – then use smaller font to include your blog title.
Now that you have 3-5 posts – all with pins already inserted into the posts – and they all have titles and alt titles we are ready to move to launch day!
